Victoria Bartlett x Jessica Mitrani x Maria Hassabi

Tall Trunk Boots ($745) are available at Barneys New York and American Rag Cie.

“Clothes don’t really come to life until they are on a living — moving — body. So whatever you want to make of the proliferation of electronic media, it makes sense that a lot of fashion designers are gravitating toward film and video as a way of presenting and promoting their collections. “I feel videos are much more liberating in that they show movement and action,” says the designer Victoria Bartlett. “In my eyes it’s a more modern way of capturing an image. There is a natural ease that comes with video — it’s more spontaneous and produces more surprising results.” For her fall collection, which she says is “all about fracturing, fragmenting and re-assembling,” she teamed up with the artist Jessica Mitrani and the dancer Maria Hassabi to create a video that explores Siamese twinning with graphic, optical effects created in post-production, and also with a pair of doubled underwear.”–Alix Browne, The New York Times T Magazine, August 20, 2010
